Abstract

Aesthetics review constitutes one of the important branches of contemporary literary criticism which is concerned with the valuation of the literary work using internal criteria and relies on the principles of coherence and coordination, unity, perfection, reinforcement and emphasis, innovation and inspiration, and complexity. Coherence and coordination is the basic element and the underpinning reason for the unity of poetry. Besides, it is deemed as the most fundamental element of aesthetics in a literary work. This principle is clearly manifested in Seyed Haider Helli`s (an elegy poet of Ahl al-Bayt -People of the House- in the nineteenth century) poetic language. His Elegy focusing on the element of emotion in lamentation for Imam Hussain (AS) is one of his most important odes. The present study employed an analytic-descriptive method to investigate the aesthetics of Seyed Haider Helli`s elegy based on the principle of coherence and coordination and relying on the elements of poetry. The findings indicated that the elements of poetry, music, language-phoneme, words and syntactic structures, emotion, imagination, and meaning were used relying on the principle of coherence and coordination so as to create a literary work which represents the poet`s inner thoughts. Further, the findings showed that the extant coordination in the ode is the product of the harmony between its infrastructure and superstructure elements.
