One of the beautiful approaches of Imam Ali’s rhetoric speech in Nahjolbalaghe is brachiology that plays an important role in charm meanings of his speech apart from its rhetorical position in the beauty of literal and outward Imam Ali’s interpretations. In the ancient rhetorical works, brachiology is divided into two types of terseness and ellipsis. Some goals and reasons have been addressed for ellipsis which briefness, honoring the high status of the person spoken to, exaggeration, observance of speech’s intonation and riming prose are some of these reasons. In Nahjolbalaghe, both types of brachiology have been used and Imam Ali has provided wide and deep meaning with few words by his unparalleled mastery. So that not only the appearance of the phrases has not been disturbed; but also it has been made it more beautiful and eloquent. This is while literature and rhetoric were not the main goal of Imam Ali and he said most of them with extemporaneous speech and without previous preparation. In this study, numerous examples of the brachiology types in Imam Ali’s speech have been mentioned and their aesthetic aspect has been studied.
